Free Women organized a silent protest in front of the Foreign Employment Bureau demanding the government to take prompt actions to safeguard the Sri Lankan employees in the Middle East region.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic a lot of foreign employees lost their jobs and the vast majority have undergone pay cuts. The health authorities of most of the countries do not give prominence to foreign infected persons thus already around 20 Sri Lankans died.
However the government of Sri Lanka has failed and neglected to implement a proper plan to bring the affected employees to the island.Even though mechanisms were implemented to bring the Sri Lankans who were stuck in European countries no such prominence was given to the foreign employees in the Middle East who have been contributing the largest portion of the state income.
