Comrade Duminda Nagamuwa, National Organizer of Revolutionary Student Movement emphasized the attempt of the government to continue its policy on privatization of education by bringing the amendment to the Kotalawala Defence Academy Act.
There was a protracted struggle by the student movement of Sri Lanka against the Private Medical College established under the name of SAITM. Ultimately the government was compelled to abolish SAITM due to brave and uncompromised demands of the Student wing. The previous Mahinda Rajapaksha regime and the current regime ruthlessly attacked and oppressed the student protests indicating that they were sympathetic on the students who are enrolled in SAITM. However now it was proven the fact that the government is never intend to give justice to SAITM students whereas it was endeavored only to establish the privatization policy through SAITM issue.
In terms of the new amendment to the Kotalawala Defence Academy act the SAITM was abolished while recognizing 3 simple passes in A/L as the minimum qualification contrary to the Sri Lanka Medical Council recommendations. Therefore FLSP is vigilant on the stand of the Government Medical Officers Association and other affiliated bodies who fought with the slogan of standards of the Medical degree.
